Due to the Labor Management Relations Act of 1947, better known as the Taft-Hartley Act, port workers may be ordered back to work. Though in this scenario, workers may work at a begrudgingly slow pace until negotiations are finished. People who act out of fear have already cleared the toilet paper off the shelves, just like a they did during a little incident in 2019. In this situation it may be worth watching KMB stock.
Other than people hoarding toilet paper, AGAIN, is anything else happening? Is it affecting the markets? The Vix has been quite low and quiet these past few days suggesting that their isn’t any initial panic and the broad market is business as usual. For my readers that are the set and forget method of investing or simply worried about their 401K, worry the not the coast seems clear, for now. However for my savvy investors, my readers always looking for new and exciting ways to make money in the market lets look further.
A quick lesson in operations management, some companies find themselves with a lean inventory due to cost, or storage capabilities. These companies use JIT ordering, or Just in Time ordering, meaning they order new materials as needed. These companies are most at risk to this port strike. If the bulk of their materials come from the east coast. Most large international companies receive materials from Canada, Mexico and both coasts. However smaller companies based only on the east coast are most at risk. This means you could find some very lucrative opportunities with some research and investigation. Investing is so exciting for this very reason! There are so many ways for you to capitalize on your research and information. For example, say you look at a company mostly based on the east coast, like Quantix. Quantix is a supply chain company based on the east coast. I listened to the CEO of Quantix speak earlier this year. I will be reaching out to him this week for him to comment on the longshoreman strike. QTRX stock is trailing down this week as predicted however, this could present a buying opportunity if the port strike ends and the stock rebounds. This is just one of many opportunities at your finger tips. Look for companies that have the means to withstand this port strike while their direct competitors suffer, we saw this happen with companies like AMD whose automated factories allowed them to produce product even as workers were furloughed during COVID.
My savvy investors and readers, the world is always ripe with opportunity. I only urge you to reach out and seize it. Stay tuned for my upcoming articles as I reach out to people of note to comment on current market conditions.
